Vettel quickest in opening practice
Sebastian Vettel edged out Fernando Alonso in a late battle for the honour of being fastest in the opening practice session for the Monaco Grand Prix. A Day at the Races
Club Indiana took things to a different level in April with a day at the races at the FASTIMES Indoor Karting center on the north side of Indianapolis.�� The event attracted a full field of 20 entrants� (including a couple of interlopers from Club Illinois and a pair of SCCA racers), many of whom got together to start the festivities with lunch at the nearby Chammps Americana restaurant. Reindler, Owen escape serious injury
V8 Supercar drivers Karl Reindler and Steve Owen were fortunate to escape serious injuries in a huge startline accident in race two at Barbagallo. Reindler stalled his Brad Jones Racing Holden on the grid and was powerless to prevent Owen from ploughing into the back of him at 90mph and causing his car to burst into flames. The 37G accident left Reindler with superficial burns to his hands and face.

Dani Pedrosa declared himself satisfied with his physical condition in Estoril practice after his recent surgery, but felt he had not managed enough running to be confident of his fitness going into the Portuguese Grand Prix weekend. Study: Steering wheels are nine times dirtier than public toilet seats
Have you ever driven a vehicle that had a sticky steering wheel? It's probably one of the most disgusting feelings there is, and a report in IBN Live shows that the adhesive can be more than just grape jelly. Researchers at Queen Mary University in London claim that there are, on average, 700 different kinds of bacteria per square inch of steering wheel. That compares to 80 distinct bacteria types on a public toilet seat. Even worse, the trunk has 1,000 bacteria types per square inch. The most common form of bacteria was bacillus cereus, which can cause food poisoning.
The reason cars are filthy is simple; we simply don't clean them. While we vacuum, dust and disinfect our home on a semi-regular basis, only one third of study participants cleaned their vehicle once a year or more. That sounds pretty crazy (and a bit lazy), but think about it. You may jettison the trash and vacuum the carpet on a somewhat regular basis, but how often do you wipe down that nasty steering wheel? And when you think about how many Americans regularly eat in their vehicles, our cars could be a solid reason why we are sick as often as we are. Now we know why valet parking attendants tend to wear white gloves.
Beyond cleanliness, the study also shows that many drivers know next to nothing about their vehicles. For example, two-thirds of us don't know how to change a tire, while one third of those surveyed don't even know how to put air in the tires. It's a sad, sad world.

Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has been urged not to reinstate the Bahrain Grand Prix to the world championship calendar until the Gulf State's political situation has returned to normal. Vettel says KERS was vital for pole
Sebastian Vettel believes he would not have been on pole position if his Red Bull team had not run KERS during qualifying at Sepang. The team had decided not to use the device in Australia in order to avoid problems, but despite that Vettel went on to take a commanding pole and victory. Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing will run a second car in this year's Indianapolis 500 for Bertrand Baguette. Bobby Rahal's squad had already announced that it would field Jay Howard in collaboration with Sam Schmidt Motorsports, and has now added an entry in the #30 for Baguette. McMurray earns Martinsville pole
Jamie McMurray made it two pole positions in a row for Earnhardt Ganassi Racing after setting the fastest time in qualifying for Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Martinsville. McMurray set a quick lap of 19.621 seconds, at an average speed of 95.509 mph, which beat the previous benchmark set by Martinsville favorite Denny Hamlin.
