Kubica requires one more operation

The doctor treating Robert Kubica at Santa Corona hospital says the surgery on his fractures yesterday was successful, but that one more operation is still required. With the focus on saving Kubica's severely injured right hand immediately after his rally crash last weekend, work to properly fix the broken bones in his leg and arm was postponed until Friday

Name That Shifter, No. 11: Chevrolet Camaro Z28

On Monday we posted a photo of a mystery vehicle?s shifter. Many of you zeroed in on it being from a third-gen GM F-body, then narrowed it down to a Camaro, and specifically a Z28 model. Since all three of those responses are technically correct, the first three responders will be receiving aSave the Manuals [...]

Melker adds F3 Euro programme

Dutch driver Nigel Melker will drive for Mucke Motorsport's Formula 3 Euro Series team in 2011 as well as continuing with the squad in GP3 for a second year. The 20-year-old took pole position at both the first two GP3 events last year, but had a luckless time in the races and ended the year only 23rd in the championship. He joins German series graduate Felix Rosenqvist in Mucke's Euro F3 line-up, with a third driver still to be announced

Volkswagen Accidentally Reveals Face-Lifted 2012 Tiguan

Volkswagen is scheduled to show a face-lifted Tiguan at the Geneva auto show in March, and briefly?accidentally?posted this image on the company’s German consumer site before yanking it down. It shows that the little ute will ditch its CC-esque front end in favor of the new, boxier corporate snout. In a recent conversation with Volkswagen [...]

Tony Stewart on Way Back to US After Reported Scuffle in Australia

Two-time NASCAR champion Tony Stewart is reportedly en route to the United States a day after reports that he scuffled with a track owner during his final weekend racing in Australia.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Stewart threw his helmet at track co-owner Brett Morris during an alleged dispute over track conditions at Sydney Speedway. The newspaper said Stewart received a black eye in return from Morris, who the paper described as "not slight in size.''

Stewart's public relations manager Mike Arning said Saturday he was still trying to sort through the news but had spoken with Stewart, who was reportedly detained briefly by the local Rosehill police department for questioning about the incident. Although he was released and cleared for his already-scheduled departure Saturday, the paper says a local official confirmed there is ongoing investigation..

Stewart has been in Australia for the past four weeks -- the second consecutive year he and several other prominent American sprint car drivers have spent the off-season racing sprint cars.

The owner-driver is scheduled to drive his No. 14 Mobil 1-Office Depot Chevrolet in a three-day test session at Daytona International Speedway beginning Thursday.

Infiniti bringing new entry-level car concept to Geneva

Infiniti sketch

Infiniti is on track to have a new entry-level model that slots below the G, and the automaker has announced that it's bringing a concept that previews this new small(er) car to the Geneva Motor Show next month. With vehicles like the Audi A1 and A3, BMW 1 Series, Lexus CT and the Mercedes-Benz A- and B-Class on the market, Infiniti would likely do well to have a contender in the small luxury car segment.

The only information we have as of this writing is the official teaser sketch you see here, previewing what could possibly be a hatchback rather than a traditional sedan or coupe. Infiniti says that the new entry-level car will be "completely different to anything currently offered by our rivals." We've heard that line before, but nonetheless, we'll see what the Japanese automaker has up its sleeve in just a few weeks. Hit the jump for Infiniti's very brief press release.

Rossi joins Fortec?s Renault 3.5 team

Alexander Rossi will move up from GP3 to Formula Renault 3.5 with Fortec this season. The 19-year-old American already has FR3.5 from a one-off outing in Monte Carlo last year - where he qualified fifth - and from winter testing, where he was a pacesetter with the ISR team. "Coming off the back of a number of very strong winter tests in 2010, I was confident that we would be able to find a good solution for the 2011 season," said Rossi, who was fourth in the inaugural GP3 championship last year.

Paffett: Pirelli has made big progress

McLaren test driver Gary Paffett reckons Pirelli's tyres have made great strides since the first group test on the new rubber last winter, the Briton having focused on tyre work during the opening 2011 session at Valencia today. The Woking team has chosen to wait until next week before hitting the track with its 2011 car, and is instead using this week's Valencia test to set benchmarks on Pirellis with the 2010 machine. Paffett said there had been clear improvement in the Pirellis since the Abu Dhabi test in November.

First Drive: 2012 Fiat 500

Our first five minutes behind the wheel of the 2012 Fiat 500 shouted that it was solid, substantial and sporty. The rest of the day simply demonstrated the amplitude of these characteristics.

Another month, another nationality insulted by the Top Gear presenters. This time, it's Mexico. And the country wants an apology.
