Ford Seeks to Race Mustang in 2013 Sprint Cup Series

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- The Ford Motor Co. has informed NASCAR it would like to race the Mustang in the elite Sprint Cup Series beginning in 2013.

Ford currently uses the Fusion in the Cup Series. The Mustang was used in four second-tier Nationwide Series races last year, and will be raced full-time this season. The 2011 Ford Mustang Boss is shown at right.

The director of Ford's North American Motorsports program tells The Associated Press that fan reaction to the Mustang exceeded all expectations. Jamie Allison also says Ford wants to bring the iconic Mustang to NASCAR's top series to have its entry consistent with a model fans can buy in the showroom.

Bianchi given post-race penalty

Jules Bianchi has lost his fourth place in the GP2 Asia sprint race in Abu Dhabi after being given a post-race penalty. The ART driver dropped to eighth place after being one of three men that the stewards adjudged to have "not respected yellow flags" during the event. Bianchi, Racing Engineering's Nathanael Berthon and Addax's Charles Pic were all given 20-second time penalties, with the latter pair dropping from eighth to 14th and 10th to 21st respectively

Coletti wins Abu Dhabi race two

Stefano Coletti drove a faultless race to claim the GP2 Asia sprint honours in Abu Dhabi. The Trident driver made a great start from pole and did not put a wheel wrong as he romped to victory. Fellow front-row starter Sam Bird got too much wheelspin and was jumped by Giedo van der Garde, but the Dutchman's race was destined to be compromised.

Heavyweights at the Glen

Week Two of 2011 Season One brought the iRacing.com V8 Supercar Series to Watkins Glen. And in a split worthy of the Upstate New York’s track’s tremendous heritage, the virtual V8 heavyweights got together for a sim racing rumble on Valentine’s Day. Mitchell McLeod poled with a 1.11.813, from Week One dominator Trond Hjerde. Next came Michael McCabe, Jonathan Salhani, Troy Cox, Darrin Vouch, Shay Griffith, Darren Marsh, Finland’s Nicolas Alho and Simon Madden. Such was the strength of the field, the class acts of Wayne Harris, George Fullerton and Justin Strickland were buried in eleventh, twelfth and thirteenth respectively. As McLeod took off from pole, Hjderde ran onto the dusty runoff asphalt at Turn One and was out-muscled into the Esses by McCabe and Salhani. McLeod broke out to [...]

2011 Buick Regal CXL Turbo Manual ? First Drive Review

Save the Manuals! Well, maybe not this one.
The basic question here is analogous to one we?ve all encountered in the course of the dating game, to wit: if the package is exceptionally attractive, is the disappointment proportionally greater when substance fails to match appearance? Buick?s recent offerings have been striking, with [...]

Acura (Barely) Teases 2012 TL Ahead of Chicago Debut

If there were a prize for least-informative product teasers, this photo of the 2012 Acura TL would certainly rank among the finalists. Almost completely obscured by a sheet is the rump of the mildly refreshed TL, set to debut tomorrow at the Chicago auto show.

Kurt Busch wins intriguing Shootout

Kurt Busch claimed victory in the Budweiser Shootout as the new Daytona surface generated a completely new style of racing at the 2.5-mile oval. The Penske driver came out on top of what turned out to be a very different Daytona race, dominated by two-car drafts racing against each other instead of the usual big pack of cars seen in the past at restrictor-plate races. Busch started the final lap in third place while being pushed by Earnhardt Ganassi's Jamie McMurray
